eat pray love

While traveling on business this summer, someone recommending I pick up a copy of "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert.

I looked it up at my local library as soon as I got home, and to my surprise, they had an audio copy that I could download onto my PDA and listen to Elizabeth herself read her own story, and what a story it was.

After a long, tormenting divorce, and another failed rebound relationship, Elizabeth made the decision to take a year off from her life to find peace, god, happiness, fulfillment…herself.   She decided that she would go to her three favorite I’s.  Italy, India and Indonesia, dividing each journey to four months in each location.

She starts her journey in Rome where she finds the love of food….and not just any kind of food, we are talking the real hole in the wall, succulent, Italian, better than sex, kind of food served with the intoxicating essence of ruby red Tuscan wine.  She gained 15 pounds obsessing on every bite during her 4 month stay, and I do believe I may have gained a few pounds just thinking about it.

After Italy she moves on to the more spiritual part of her journey, to India, in an Ashram of a Guru whom she had never even met.  I so identified with this part of the book, as I myself sought the peaceful energy offered by a Guru from India and traveled by myself to San Fransico for a chance to be blessed by him.

In the final part of her journey she travels to Indonesia where she finds lust, romance and love.

If you ever just wanted to pick up and leave your life on a quest like this, you can do so through Elizabeth where she will take you with her on this incredible journey where she finds everything and more than what she sets out to discover, including herself.

Ahh, if only I had the financial security to be able to take a year off from my life.

    On a side note…
Yea! This is the first time I’ve been able to access your blog in ages!! Don’t know what was going on there, but glad to not get that error message anymore.
    Hope you’re doing well!!

  • Hey Pita, Sorry, it had something to do with java script that I had posted in my sidebar. I just figured it out last night. You didn’t miss much, I took a blogging break right before the elections. Nice to see you again!

  • Hi indigo-d,
I have not been able to access your blog in forever which has been a mystery but arrived here from a technoradi link, today. Held my breath, thinking the big “no” message would pop up. Have missed reading your posts.

Everyone who talks about this book gives it a “fun read”. I think we all enjoy reading what’s real in others. Thanks for posting your opinion.

  • Sorry for the access problem, you didn’t miss much as I have not had a lot to say lately.

It is true how we do enjoy learning about the reality of life for others, it opens our world a bit and encourages us to step out now and then.
