Joanna Lopianowski-Roberts: The Sistine Chapel in Cross Stitch

Cross Stitch of the Sistine Chapel

NPR had a clip about cross stitching the other day.  I thought to myself,  how often you hear a clip about cross stitching on the news.  It was a story about Joanna Lopianowski-Roberts from Junction Texas, who designed  the Sistine Chapel in crossstitch.

They said it took Michelangelo four years to complete the Sistine Chapel, and it took Joanna eight years to re-create.  Joanna travels a lot in her job and she wanted a project she could take with her  to work on.   She worked on it about an hour a day, many of those hours were in hotels across the country.

Her piece is now documented on a website which she created specifically for this project which  shows the detail and her progress step by step.

If you are looking for a challenge, you can purchase her pattern and try it yourself.
